The fund-raising effort for the Prince Edward Island Library Telescope Loaner program has been completed and this year’s project has been completely successful.
With the help of some kind people from the Facebook Sidewalk Astronomers of Charlottetown group, we were able to sell one hundred raffle tickets on a Dobsonian telescope and recently selected a winner. In addition, I managed to sell ten of the eight-inch Dobsonian telescopes, and possibly could have sold a few more.
In total, we raised $4800 which almost covered the cost of the telescopes in the raffle, the sale and for the libraries.
Kudos and thank-yous are extended to everyone who helped or participated in this project this year. To Joe Wang from Pacific Telescopes (SkyWatcher), who agreed to ship a pallet of scopes to my home and cover the shipping costs; to Stefan Broquet from Lire la Nature who sold me the telescopes at such an amazing price; to Chris Vessey for all his help in the raffle and telescope sale; to Scott Arnold and Gordon Campbell who went out of their way in difficult personal times to sell raffle tickets, and to all the other people involved I wish to sincerely and specifically thank you. Finally, I must thank my wife for having to put up with my nonsense during this process.
Will I have another fund-raiser for the Library Telescope Loaner program? At this time it is unlikely, as I want to slowly wind down my outreach activities. But, one should never say never!
